Federation Of Registered Nollywood Guilds And Associations Dead On Arrival – Alex Eyengho

Nollywood veteran and founding president of the Association of Nollywood Core Producers¬† (ANCOP), Mr. Alex Eyengho, has described as dead on arrival, the recent attempt by some Nollywood practitioners to form a Federation of Registered Nollywood Guilds And Associations.¬† In a statement by Mr. Eyengho, made available to African Heritage Times, he said that “The whole thing was put together and funded by Alhaji Adedayo Thomas and his National Film and Video Censors Board…The fact remains that Adedayo Thomas and the NFVCB have no rights whatsoever to regulate, control or meddle in the affairs of Guilds and Associations in Nollywood.”

The full text of Mr. Eyengho’s statement reads:

“This whole matter and the so-called ‘federation’ it gave unwanted birth to is dead on arrival. The whole thing was put together and funded by Alhaji Adedayo Thomas and his National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB). Cash envelopes also allegedly went to these Presidents and some so-called leaders. Greed and hunger in the industry is a major challenge that is making a few compromise the common good of the industry for peanuts.

“The fact remains that Adedayo Thomas and the NFVCB have no right whatsoever to regulate, control or meddle in the affairs of Guilds and Associations in Nollywood. This is the real issue and that is why the Association of Nollywood Core Producers (ANCOP) is challenging the illegality in court.

“All I can say at this point is that critical and well-meaning stakeholders must step out now on a rescue mission of Nollywood, particularly the associations and guilds structure, where most of their current leadership appear not to know the very essence of such structures currently in their hands.

“This kind of fora (in this instance, the so-called federation) have always been there in Nollywood albeit under different nomenclature, the last two efforts being the Coalition of Nollywood Guilds and Associations (CONGA), which some of those involved in this one (federation) technically killed for their selfish reasons.

“The difference between CONGA and this so-called federation is that the former (and those before it) were of the industry, by the industry and for the industry, while the latter is of Alhaji Adedayo Thomas’ NFVCB, by Alhaji Adedayo Thomas’ NFVCB and for Alhaji Adedayo Thomas’ NFVCB imposed on some current jelly leadership of Nollywood associations and guilds. All this is geared towards the current leadership of some associations and guilds in Nollywood handing over these industry structures to Alhaji Adedayo Thomas and his NFVCB for general regulation including regulating the internal affairs of Nollywood associations and guilds! This is not only wrong but absolutely illegal and has no place in the extant laws that established the NFVCB. For example, hear this so-called ‘federation’ in their weird and indeed laughable daydreaming: “Federation would accept an association/guilds to be her member if only such has been certified by the Censors board and equally has national spread.” Seriously? How preposterous can some of these my most Distinguished Creative Colleagues ever be!

“For the avoidance of doubt and I say it for the umpteenth time, the NFVCB and Adedayo Thomas have no business whatsoever with associations and guilds in Nollywood. They only stricto senso have business with INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS of producer associations (NOT THE GUILDS OR ASSOCIATIONS!) who have contents to present for censorship and exhibitors/distributors who have premises to be licensed. This is the extant laws. Anything outside this is ABSOLUTELY ILLEGAL!

“Let me make it abundantly clear that we shall, on behalf of Nollywood and for the common good of the associations and guilds structure follow this matter in court to a logical conclusion, no matter the extent to which the leadership of some of the current associations and guilds have been manifestly brainwashed and colonised by someone beneath them in terms of intelligence!”
