A frontline chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and former Abia State Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Obinna Oriaku, has described the late Ezeukwu of Ngwaukwu, His Eminence, Eze (Dr.) Bernard Onyenguzo Enweremadu, as one who truly represented what an Eze should be.
In his tribute to the late monarch, made available to African Heritage Times, Hon. Oriaku said it was a privilege for him to have been of service to Ezeukwu during his lifetime.
In his words, “It was a privilege speaking with him from time to time over his statutory entitlements. Though I could not respond physically to his numerous invitations to his palace, I am glad I contributed in my own modest ways to making him happy towards the tail end of his life. As Commissioner for finance, I discussed with the Governor on how to change his car, especially after the story broke out that his truck stopped around Okigwe on his way from Abia State University. We arranged and got the current Lexus jeep he was using. I also had the privilege of having his palace council attend my late mum’s burial. Ezeukwu represented what ‘Eze’ as Eze should represent and we need to learn to show respect not just to our venerable monarchs but to our traditional institutions at large. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
