Abia Has Invested Over N1.4Billion On Community Development – Dr. Chinatu Njoku

The General Manager, Abia State Community and Social Development Agency (ACSDA), Dr. Chinatu Njoku said the state Government under Gov. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu has disbursed over N1.4Billion on community development projects through CSDA.

Dr. Njoku who disclosed this during the Abia CSDA outcome survey report in Umuahia Abia State, added that the agency has supported the implementation of 543 micro projects during the entire CSDP and specifically 342 Micro projects during the Community Social Development Project –Additional Financial (CSDP – AF) in 278 communities and groups.

In his words: “These projects were designed to support the development, appraisal, implementation, supervision and evaluation of community development plans using the Community Driven Development (CDD) approach”.

He added that the agency which was established by law No. 2 of 2009, through CSDP-AF, seeks to increase access by the poor to improve social and natural resources infrastructure in a sustainable manner throughout Nigeria.

The CSDA boss hailed the state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for providing the needed financial support and enabling environment for ACSDA to operate adding that the Government,through the Agency, brought massive transformation to rural communities in Abia.

He called on Executive Chairmen of Local Government Areas (LGAs), in the state, to support communities and vulnerable groups to maintain these infrastructure facilities in their respective LGAs as well as ensure they deliver the needed results.

In his presentation, the Lead Consultant, Dr. Kelechi Chima Igwe, identified an urgent need for complementary projects for such benefiting communities based on progressive performance for effective functionality of the facilities and for sustainability.

He called for improved cooperation and synergy among other government agencies involved in community development, adding that enhanced coordination among similar donor agencies would guarantee better product delivery.

Dignitaries at the event include the board chairman, Abia CSDA, Sir Morris Ichita, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Chairman, Chief Iyke Anyatonwu, Chairman of Bende LGA Chief Emma Onwuchekwa,Heads of Service from 17 LGAs, community leaders from the 17 Local Government Areas, among others.
